Home Sweet Home #13: End of Fall Home Maintenance

  • Don’t forget to do a final gutter cleaning of the season. Make sure your gutters are safely secured to the house and clean your downspouts of any debris.

  • Clean your dryer vent! Make sure to remove lint from the dryer’s exhaust duct and the area behind the machine.

  • Turn your ceiling fans on reverse. Flip the switch on your ceiling fans so they rotate clockwise, pushing warm air down.

  • Colder weather presents a great opportunity to clean up your garden beds. Remove spent annuals, trim back perennials, and add mulch to protect roots.

  • If your leaf layer isn’t too thick, consider mowing the leaves, which acts as a natural fertilizer, saving you time and effort!  If the leaf layer is thick or wet, make sure to rake first.
