Home Sweet Home #10: Prepare Your Home for Summer with Tips from the HUI Maintenance Team

1. Inspect Your Roof – whether you have shingles, tin, or concrete tiles, your roof is your home's first line of defense against water damage. Don’t delay the repairs, or you could find yourself facing water damage inside your home the next time a storm hits.

2. Clean or Replace HVAC Filters – don’t forget to do this every 2-3 months! A dirty filter forces your heat, ventilation, and air conditioning system to work harder, costing you more in your wallet!

3. Clean Your Dryer Vent – Not all lint gets caught in the lint trap; some of it makes its way into the dryer vent. A clean vent will save you money by reducing the time your dryer has to run, and it could prevent a house fire.

4. Clean Decks, Driveways, Fences, and Other Outside Surfaces - A pressure washer makes this job easier! If you don’t have one, borrow one from a neighbor or consider renting one from a home center.

5. Prepare Your Lawn Mower for the Summer – change the engine oil and sharpen the cutting blade; you’ll lengthen the life of the mower and improve the look of your lawn.
