The Application Process
Housing Unlimited maintains a waiting list of applicants. We will send you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application. Thereafter it may be six months to a year before your name comes to the top of the list.
When your application is among those at the top third of our waiting list, we will send you a letter asking you to update your application. If you fail to respond when we attempt to contact you, we will have to remove your name from the waiting list.
If your address or phone number changes while you are on the waiting list, be sure to call us at 301-592-9314 to report the change.
When your application is at the top of the waiting list and we have a vacancy we will:
- Contact you to discuss the vacancy
- Complete a criminal background check and tenant history review
- Determine that you are eligible based on income and landlord-tenant review
- Arrange an interview with the Montgomery County Core Service Agency who will determine your readiness for independent living and confirm that you are in mental health recovery
When you have been determined fully eligible and have received the recommendation of the Core Service Agency, we will make an appointment for you to visit the home and meet the current residents of that property. Within a few days thereafter, we will ask you to attend a tenant training and leasing signing session. At that meeting, we will collect your first month’s rent and security deposit and give you your keys. Immediately thereafter, you will be ready to move into your new home.
