Tenant Empowerment Program
HUI’s Tenant Empowerment Program is designed to support its tenants, their homes and their neighborhoods. The program provides education and training on the privileges and obligations of being a responsible tenant as well as a member of a shared living community. The three major components of the program are:
- Extra Measure Property Management Initiative
- "Hire from Within" Program
- HUI Tenants Council
Extra Measure Property Management - HUI staff conducts weekly house visits by staff to review cleanliness standards regarding each house’s common area. Staff also meets with tenants one-to-one quarterly to review private space standards.
Hire from Within – Over 60% of our staff is former tenants or other consumer leaders. In addition, we also hire tenants as paid interns to help carry out many of our administrative, property management, and public education duties.
HUI Tenants Council – An elected body comprised of consumer leaders give them a voice in their day-to-day life. Activities include conveying tenant concerns to HUI, sharing information and planning educational and social programs open for all the people in our homes to build bonds of friendship and camaraderie.
