Housing Unlimited, Inc.

Building Lives of Hope and Dignity

The mission of Housing Unlimited Inc. (HUI), a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) affordable housing corporation, is to address the housing crisis for

adults with psychiatric disabilities who reside in Montgomery County, Maryland. HUI:

  • provides affordable, permanent housing opportunities
  • empowers people to live independently
  • helps people move from substandard housing
  • helps people move from their aging parent's homes
  • provides public education, advocacy, and community linkage
  • brings people who need housing together in partnerships

HUI was incorporated in 1991 by parents of adults with mental illness. The goal was to relieve the severe housing crisis for this segment of the population.

The HUI Board of Directors expanded to include key professional people who were committed to HUI's mission. After developing an innovative model, HUI opened its first house in 1995. It's success initiated the phenomenal growth HUI enjoys today.

HUI is proud to be part of a national movement that works to integrate people with mental illness into communities where they put down roots and thrive.
